What is this warning?
You may see the warning:
“Possible applicant mismatch: The Subject’s DOB on input is different from the one on file.”
This means the date of birth (DOB) entered by the tenant does not match the DOB that Equifax has on file for that person.
Why did I receive this warning?
We recently added this alert to help you quickly identify when a tenant’s DOB doesn’t match Equifax’s records. This can happen for a few reasons, including:
-
A typo when the tenant entered their DOB
-
A formatting issue (e.g., day/month swapped)
-
Outdated or incorrect information on file
Does this mean the tenant is the wrong person?
Not necessarily.
If you entered the tenant’s SIN, we use it to match the applicant to the correct Equifax profile. Since the match is based on the SIN, we’ve identified the right person—even if the DOB is different.
Do I need to take any action?
Usually, no action is required.
However, if you want to be extra cautious, you can:
-
Ask the tenant to confirm their DOB
-
Check for common entry mistakes (e.g., incorrect year or swapped day/month)
-
If the tenant also wishes to correct this information, they can dispute it with the credit bureau here
Will this warning affect the screening results?
No—this warning is informational only. It’s meant to keep you informed, but it does not prevent the report from running or change the identity match when a SIN is provided.
