Why Does a “No Credit Hit” Occur?

There are two primary reasons why a “No Credit Hit” may appear on a credit report:

1. Information Mismatch

One of the most common reasons for a “No Credit Hit” is a discrepancy between the information provided and the records on file at Equifax.

🔍 What to Check:

  • Is the tenant’s full legal name spelled correctly?

  • Was the date of birth entered accurately?

  • Does the address history match official documents?

  • Is the SIN (if provided) correct?

Even a small typo or inconsistency can result in Equifax being unable to generate a report.

✅ What You Can Do:

  • Review the application and double-check all submitted details.

  • If you spot an error, send an email to info@singlekey.com with:

    • A clear copy of the tenant’s government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license)

    • Any corrected or updated information

Our team will review the application for discrepancies and provide guidance on how to proceed.

2. Lack of Credit History

In some cases, the tenant simply may not have a credit history on file with Equifax. This is particularly common if the tenant:

  • Is young and has not yet established credit

  • Is new to Canada and hasn’t built a credit profile

  • Has chosen not to use credit products like credit cards or loans

✅ Next Steps:

If the applicant has no credit history, we recommend collecting additional documents to help you evaluate their suitability as a tenant:

  • Proof of income (e.g., pay stubs, employment letter)

  • Landlord or personal references

  • Bank statements or other financial records

You can also request these documents directly through SingleKey when sending the application invite.
